First Snow/Last Shot

Happy New Year! The tree is gone from my living room, and I drank the the last of the eggnog last night, so it's time to take a break from editing over a thousand holiday pictures and get back to NPN.

This is a secluded unnamed waterfall near home. I rarely see it in winter because it's impossible to park along the roads in the area once the snowbanks build up. So this is from the first snow accumulation of the year, before it got too deep to pull off the road. It's a 2.5 second exposure; I don't normally use such long exposures, but this was after sunset, with heavy clouds and light snow. Fortunately, there is enough structure in this water to prevent it from looking like a thick milkshake oozing downstream. (The snow in the air disappeared during my 2.5 second exposure.)

Canon 5D3; Canon 24-105mm.
2.5 sec. @ f/11; ISO 640

Note: The level on my camera says this is perfectly vertical, but the rock layers are tilted, and the water is falling every which way. Does it look tilted?

Looks nicely cold, snowy, and not tilted. There's enough structure in the falls to keep it interesting.

I think it is a lovely cascade and it does not look tilted to me at all. It does, however look cold. The SS speed looks perfect to me. Happy New Year Wayne. Congratulations on your weekly challenge first place image. It, and most everything you present, is nothing short of top shelf. :toast:

Wayne, Happy New Year to you as well. That is a beautiful falls and I really like it with the fresh snow coating. I think your 2.5 sec. exposure work very nice here even though you don't normally use an exposure that long. Does not look tilted to me at all.

Thanks for sharing Wayne. These private places are just as important as the well known watering holes and should be shared. Looks like a nice spot to picnic. :toast:

Not tilted for me...
I like the comp a lot as the water guides you up the hill.
I would brighten the water a tad and cool it off, it appears a bit muddy to me next to the white snow.
A nice pleasing winter image....

It doesn't look tilted to me. I really like all the different levels in the cascades and the bits of color coming through the ice and snow. A lovely winter scene, nicely intimate, nicely captured.

Tilted geologically but perfect photographically. Beautiful image.

The less intense colors here complement the white snow really well. The right side of the image is particularly engaging.

Nicely done, Wayne. It has a nice, gentle mood. The waterfall looks great. No, it doesn't look tilted to me. You've gotten nice detail throughout, which can be difficult with bright snow.
