Sundown

When I set out for a drive on the evening this was taken I wasn't expecting much as far as sunsets go and so headed for an old abandoned church that faces more northwards, thinking it might make a nice subject in the evening light. As it came into sight I passed this old house and happened to glance back and realized that the sunset was going to be a lot nicer than I thought so change of plan. Wish I could get a sky like that whenever I'm travelling.

These old abandoned houses and barns are ubiquitous on the Alberta prairie but it is only a matter of time before the sun goes down on them once and for all and they disappear for good.

Cyan may be to heavy for some tastes, please let me know. Thanks for looking.

The character and history of these old houses always draw me in. The colorful sunset enhances the scene nicely. Thanks for posting it.

I really like the sky and the old house adds a lot of character to the image. My only suggestion would be to try cropping from 1/3 to 1/2 from between the bottom and the house.

Carey, What a great mood you captured here. The feeling of solitude really comes through and that sky worked out so well for you. I like the contrast with the cool blue tone in the snow against the warmth of the setting sun. I can see a crop working as Richard mentioned but I also like how the curve of the chopped corn field meets the lower right corner.

Beautiful sky to offset the lonely old farmhouse.

I love the interplay of all the different lines in this photo. The round lines in the foreground, the crepuscular rays in the background, and the lines in the clouds itself. And in the middle of it all the house. My only nit is the cyan, which is indeed too strong for me.

So many lines throughout this image, Carey! The curving crop lines were actually the first I noticed and I wouldn't think of losing them. I like the details on the old farmhouse that you have maintained. I have no issue with the cyans on my monitor.
