As a proper cold and snow-shunning Californian, the bit of my portfolio that qualifies for this WC is rather limited. Here's about the best I could come up with.
f/18, 1/125 sec, ISO-100, 110mm, about 35 degrees and falling fast.
Too blue?

That's a neat lone tree is a neat setting with the frozen lake and big cliffs behind it, Dave. The sunlit snow looks right to me. I also like the placement of the tree. Given that the weather people on TV are threatening us with snow tomorrow, I think I'm mentally ready after looking at this... .
After another look, I'm thinking that I'd like the tree to stand out a bit more...maybe some dodging through a mask.

Hi Dave I think there is enough winter on the lower section of this very fine image. i would crop the top third... . . that would make this a stunning image

I like the low angle of the sun, clearly conveying the message of an ending day. Works well with the title!!

What I really like about this shot Dave is the sense of scale and depth the tree imparts on the overall scene. Interesting tree too; don't have them here in CT. Lighting on the tree makes it stand out too. Nice work!

Here's a re-work alternative with a square crop and a brightened tree per Albert and Mark's suggestions.

For somebody who shuns it, you sure found some nice looking snow! I wonder if it was the weight or surface area of some previous snow that broke of that pine in the wind.
Just saw the repost, and I have to tell you that I liked all the bright snow in the top of this scene, but I have to admit that Albert had the right idea to let the tree stand out, especially with Mark's processing tip.

Sure works for me, Dave! The upper level snow in the background is such a strong part of the image that it definitely splits my attention but I love it and prefer leaving it in the picture. I do agree with Mark that a little additional selective brightness and contrast on the tree would make it even more striking though.
