Eureka Bloom

Getting excited planning my nearly annual spring trip down to DV next month. The word is that the bloom will be better than the average for the last few years; good not spectacular. Then on to Southern UT, yeah!

This is from last spring in the Eureka Valley an hour before sunset.

f/11, 1/100 sec, 146mm, ISO-200, handheld.

Dave: What a great combination and juxtaposition of elements. The light on the main dune is a great anchor point for the comp. Really well seen. >=))>

Interesting combination of what appears to be opposing elements: direct Sun vs. shade; warm yelow-green vs. cold blues; soft vegetation vs. stark sand and rocks; and diagonal straight lines vs. sweeping curves. It all comes together well, with the light side of the big dune in the upper left balancing the bright foregound in lower right. I can see why you are excited to hit the road again!

Very well composed! The three main layers work really well juxtaposed as they are here, nice work!

Dave, I like this image a lot! Your comp works great with the diagonal lines and layers. Wonderful light and colors in this too. One of those images that looks like it would make a beautiful large print to me. :toast:

strange and so fascinating composition.
And also more strange and amazing the colours.
I wonder about a stronger (more pure white) chromatic definition of the central part, but I didn't see....
and the image is really good as is.
all the best,
sandro

Hi Dave,

There is so much going for you in this fine work of photography. I see three beautiful layers, with three beautiful textures, colors, and layers of light. Then, they all come together and work wonderfully well. I agree with Nick o the large Print. :)

That is a heck of a bloom out there. I like the bright color contrast against the understated background. I sure can see why you are anxious to go back. I might see you out in DV. I am planning to be there sometime in March.

Dave:

Very nice indeed. Been a few years but I used to prowl about the SW in the Spring every year. great country and you have captured a great image. So many of the areas of the SW with great dunes are plagued by swarms of dune buggies. The part of this I like best is the receding lines of differently textured areas.

Cheers: Tom

Really like the layers, colors, and texture. Could see maybe burning down the bright foreground for better overall tonal balance.

Really neat shot here. Nice job. My only thought would be to clone out the sand on the bottom of the image so as to not distract the eye downward...
