Hi Mike. This looks likely to be a Pine Siskin. I see those occasionally when we have a very cold, snowy winter. They're about the same size as Goldfinches and look similar to a winter Goldfinch at a glance. Terrific look at the the bird with excellent details showing the subtle colors in the wing coverts nicely.

Thanks Mark and Jim,
This is a new one for me and from what I can tell after some quick research, I would assume that the unusual winter weather for the past several years has this Finch heading further South to find food sources.

A fine photo of this Pine Siskin. Congrats on getting one to sit still long enough.
We always photograph what is presented, but I find the light part of the background to be a bit distracting.

The bird, the perch, the BG (even the bright parts) are all excellent. The bulky OOF tree bole is a weak part of this capture, IMHO. I am wondering if the first-curtain synchronization might not have been better if it had been last curtain?

Very nice shot of this siskin Mike, I like the bg, if you could have moved a bit to the right and just gotten the bird on the branch without the trunk in the bg I think that would have improved this. :toast:
