Illuminating Praise

This is first light in Bryce Canyon NP on 02/15/2015. Slightly chilly at the time. . . . Not sure exactly what this formation of hoodoos is officially called, but it appears to be a priest of sorts with hands raised in praise for the new day. Amazing light. Had to crop a little off of the bottom to get rid of the protruding rocks from higher up the hill (80% of original). This is from Inspiration Point. Been too busy to do much photography lately. Glad I had this opportunity.
Canon 60D, f16, 1/30 sec., iso 100, -1.3 step exp. bias, 85 mm (24-105 lens), on a bean bag.

Comments and critique are much appreciated.

Bryce is such an amazing place. I'm glad you were able to isolate a shot that is not one of the many iconic views, although those are pretty cool too. I like this comp alot and I think the only suggestion I could make, would be to back of the vibrance and or saturation slightly. Living among sandstone everyday elevates my sensitivity to its vulnerability to intense light. Not much , just a little. Otherwise a really nice take on Bryce.

This is very eye-catching. I like the saturated colors and light on the main subject and the nice way it is balanced by the cooler tones in the shadows.

Ed: My one and only trip to Bryce was on New Year's eve and it was socked in by a snowstorm. It was pretty cool in its own right but I love this sunlit version. I like the glow from the light. Well done. >=))>

This is one place I want to visit. Nice view, I think saturation is little high.

Hopefully this is a bit less saturated. I tried to rework it from scratch.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions.

Sorry Ed but I like both versions. I would think that the typical consumer might prefer the more saturated version while the photographers here can be a little more reserved about pushing that slider sometimes. Other than that personal choice it's a great view of Bryce as if the rocks are illuminated from within.

Great catch on these hoodoos, Ed. I'm sure enjoying the sense that they're lit from within. The repost shows the same effect well, but with much more realistic looking colors. I'm always fascinated with how different images often look when I rework from scratch.

Ed, this is well-framed and the light is beautiful. I like the slightly less saturated version. Bryce has so many great opportunities for these shots of the isolated formations, and you did well with this one. Seems like you could get away with a wider (and sharper) aperture for this subject.
