I spotted this Rainbow Lorikeet having a feed in a tree in our back yard. I know most of his body is in the shade, but I like how the sun is catching his eye

Paul,
Lovely shot, although the background is distracting. But, we take what the birds give us. Neither your post nor your signature block tell us where you live. That would be helpful.

Hi Patrick, thanks for your feedback, sorry for the lack of info, I'm still working out how everything works on here. I live in a country area just outside of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

The larger version really shows the beauty of this colorful bird. The busy background does not bother me. It is the environment in which it lives.

Great colors in this guy (or gal). I like how the eye caught the light too. It's too bad about the busy bg but that's what it is.

Sometimes photographers forget the whole picture, ignoring the relevance of habitat. No danger of that here, although it is over-dominant. Still, the bird stands out well due to its brilliant plumage and the fortunate catch-light in the eye. I would call this a pleasing compromise.
If you ever get down to Sydney, my son Chris lives there, with his wife and daughter. Say hello to him for me!

I will Phil, thanks for your comments. My eldest son is a green keeper and he's going to Liberty Golf Course in NY at the end of March to work for around 6 months you might see him if you ever go there
