Here's a shot from our Nome workshop that Ken Archer leads each year. He had found a Long-tailed Jaeger nest that we spent some time photographing. In this shot one of the birds has just taken off from the nest while the other remains sitting on it. I was lying on the ground to get a low angle here.

10 commentsExcellent Nate. You low angle really helps make thisone work.
Very nice catch Nate. Terrific bird- great POV and background, and the DOF includes both birds.
Superb image Nate - I love how the flying bird almost seems to be "suspended" above the bird on the ground.
Lovely colours and the wing position is perfect as well...
Well, what to say ? I like all about it: the techs, composition and the 2nd Jaeger looking at the fly-by....
. A gem ! hans
Love that low pov on this shot and that long tail. Nice comp and creamy BG. Well done!
Awesome capture of this pair Nate, great flight action and a very pleasing composition. They were quite the photogenic pair, I'm eagerly looking forward to this June's trip.
Sweet One!!!
The LP is a real treat for the eyes, your 'twofer' is just superb.
Enough said
Very nice Nate
Very beautiful image, Nate.
Great composition
Wow, wonderful Nate!!!

Always wanted to photograph this species, Nate, and you've nailed both a portrait and great BIF image in one frame!
Shame that the flying Jaeger ended up casting a shadow on the nested one. Hardly a deal-breaker though. I really like your low angle and overall comp, and the light is very pleasing with perfect "soft" contrast. Any chance of some localized adjustments to get the eyes on the background bird more noticeable? Or perhaps they simply blend in in the capture. Just a thought...you have to reach to find a nit here IMO.
