One of the endemic species to Western Mexico. These guys are very timid and difficult to get close to, and during most of my visit could be readily seen but too distant to photograph well. A visit to a very neat venue- a restaurant nestled up a canyon at Nogalito on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta- served a dual purpose- offering excellent cousine along with plenty of shade trees under which these guys would perch and carry about very close to the patio tables where we sat.

A great look at this very cool bird Chuck, I photographed this species years ago and would love to go back. Nice lighting near the eyes and on those beautiful blues on the back, a bit of fill might have evened out your lighting even more but this is sweet as is.
A beautiful Jay, Chuck. Excellent job on the exposure and the detail is beautiful.
Hi Chuck, good detail & clarity. I like the soft, dappled light coming through the canopy as a backdrop, my slight reservation is that RH branch popping up through the head.

Very nice Chuck, love the blue back. Perch bg and details all look great.
Very cool species, Chuck, and a great portrait of this jay. I like the V the branches create and the bonus effect of the leading lines. Great details in both the blues and blacks as well.
