Dunes in Soft Light

by Stephen Stanton

First visit to Death Valley, the end of March, my 2nd morning in the Dunes saw soft light and pastel colors and shading. Hoping  the lines and shapes and shadows work. I liked the result. Thanks for looking, all comments appreciated.

That is a very lovely photo! I absolutely dig the soft light and the shapes in the dunes. I think I would crop the top part though (top 1/10th or so). The part to the left were some details of the mountains are lit by the sun detracts from the nice dunes and pulls my eyes away. Is that a human we see on top of the dune in the distance?

I like the result too, as well as for the mix of warm and cool tones.  Well seen!

The very well balanced lights give the appearance of 3d picture. I would probably remove the person on the top of a dune, this cuts the beautiful and smooth lines of the dunes. Beautiful picture, I like it a lot. Bravo!

Very lovely.  The shapes are very elegant and the light quite pleasing.

The soft light works really well here, Stephen.  I like all of the depth in the dunes and that added to nicely by the subtle views of the distant mountains.  The larger view includes some good details in the shadowed dunes that add a lot to the image.

Hi Stephen,

The image works so very well for me because of the diagonals leading my eye, the wonderful textures in the sand, and the light and shadow elements. The hazy background really highlights what is in the foreground, and this works really well in keeping me in the scene and exploring the image.

Truly beautiful photography

Stephen: I love dunes as subjects. I love the light here and the play of shadows on the scene. Good vision, good photography. >=))>

Nice curves in the soft light.  I like that you have cropped of the tops of the background mountains as that puts emphasis on the dunes.  I might be inclined to clone out the photographer.
