Panamints Perspective

Thinking I'll do a bit of a photographic travelogue from our Mono Lake, DV, So Utah, Nevada road trip from last month. This shot was taken the afternoon after the sunrise from my previous posting (thanks for the comments, BTW.) Late afternoon from our campsite after a grueling 1/4 mile backpack into the DV wilderness in the upper Panamint Valley... so close that the Scale Figure Honey went back to the car for a few more cold beers ;-) Those are the Panamint Dunes in the distance. They may look fairly close but it is a 4 mile trek to their leading edge and those dunes are pretty darn big. The creosote bush was the only thing really blooming here but for me this has a nice layered look of textures.

Thanks in advance for your comments and critique!

Dave, I agree, the layers of textures works very well here.  The brightly lit shrubs in the foreground are set off nicely by the shaded ridge and then those sensuous dunes grab attention, and finally you've got the shaded ridge in the far distance.

Nice imaging, with plenty of depth, Dave.  I know it takes some work to reach those remote dunes, even though you can see them for many miles.

Great use of layers indeed. Especially the darker part in the middle is very effective at separating and enhancing the layers. And those dunes look gorgeous in the warm light. I still don't want to camp in these temperatures though....!

I really like the light in this picture, Dave. I wonder why you chose a prortrait format, though? I don't necessarily dislike it, it just looks a bit tight on the dunes.

Very nicely layered image. It is a real shame you had to go that far from your cooler to make the image, but photography sometimes requires sacrifice. sad

Hi Dave,

Cold beers in Death Valley as you make the photograph sound just right. devil

For the image, I like it because everything works. The Light and layering are very enjoyable and move the eye through the image beautifully. The light on the dunes in the background is so sweeeet.

Very nice work on this one
