Fox Trot

I'm way behind on photo processing.  Several trips' worth of images have been neglected in recent years, and I only recently finished up my 2012-13 Yellowstone winter trip photos.

I liked the look of this one, despite a few drawbacks.  This is one of the local foxes that roamed about the small town where our cabin is located just outside the park.  It was early evening, and it was getting dark rather quickly.  The image had a noticeable bluish caste, which I tried to compensate for without warming it overtly or unnaturally.  Obviously, the plowed driveway it's walking down is an unavoidable man-made element, but on the plus side this allowed for a clear view of the entire body (no feet lost in the thicker snow pack).

Finally, I often like to go for a horizontal composition with a centered, symmetrical subject like this, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.  A standard vertical crop would work fine, but I like the placement of the colorful fox as a graphic element in the wider, plain environment.

Wow, I can't believe I'm the first one to comment on this.  It's a beautiful shot, and I particularly love the centered composition and intensity of the look, and I think the WB of the snow is just right.

The central positioning seem to work well here. A simple but effective frame, though the fox doesn't appear to be happy with your presence.enlightened

No worries about the position of the fox. I really like it!! I like the curve in the ploughway, although it's very subtle. Very well focused look from the fox. It's looking right through you. Very well done!!blush

Beautiful image Max.  I love that you can see his entire body, the raised foot and the name you have given the image.

Hey Max,

This one is super-sweet - love it. I agree that this one could work well vertically as well (and you might have lost some of the plowing, depending on how tightly cropped it was), but I'm fine with the vertical presentation. The look on the fox's face is great, and love the dark lower legs (and upraised paw of course). While I don't like the hand-of-man in wildlife shots (as a rule), here the plowing ridges are so subtle that they're almost invisible (and thus hardly detract at all).

Well done...cheers...

Brad

Hi Max I like the center position of the fox too. Foxes are so colorful in the winter against the snow and this shows how much the fox stands out. I like his feet in the air too!

Love it, Max! Great expression on this handsome fox as well. Not much more to say...just a very, very cool frame.
