young male tiger

Canon 7D, 300mm, f7.1, ISO 2000, 1/400 sec.

On the last day of my stay at Bandhavgarh NP in India I saw this young male tiger. The light was already starting to fade. The tiger was walking away, but suddenly it heard something and turned around. That's when I hit the shutter release and came up with this image.

What a great image of this tiger in its environment.  You take us with you on this adventure.  Thank for posting.

Hi Betty-Lou,

This is a nice "classic" scene of a very iconic animal. While some might feel the background is a bit busy, that's not something you could control. I think you nailed the DoF just perfectly here - having that "framing" tree/bush on the left in focus adds a nice subtle touch to the shot. I also like how you positioned the subject in the frame - pretty much textbook perfect composition...

On my monitor(s), both the rock the tiger is standing on and the tiger itself look a little over-sharpened (the whiskers on the tiger show it the most) - a minor thing and something that's easily corrected if you choose to do so.

Cheers...

Brad

Wow, Betty-Lou! This is an outstanding image. As others have mentioned, it has both a "classic" feel to it and wonderful light. Definitely one of my favourites of yours. The whiskers caught my attention to as needing a little reduction on the sharpening, but it would be difficult to have come away with any better image than you did here, IMO!

Betty-Lou,

You certainly got a classic pose heredevil

The large version shows some noise on my monitor, I wonder if reducing the by bluring might "clean ti up" a little and reduce the sharpening artifacts?

Thanks for all your comments. Acoording to the suggestions I have reduced the sharpening somewhat and blurred the already blurry parts of the image some more (see repost). I'd love to hear if you think this is an improvement. Thanks.
