On the hike out from the DV campsite with the orange rocks (from previous postings) we happened upon a pretty decent display of desert gold flowers on this rocky alluvial fan. Not the sharpest image unfortunately as it was handheld with 30 lbs. on my back but I think it illustrates the soft and harsh contrasts of the DV environment. A nice way to say good bye to DV before heading to Zion NP.

Does a nice job of showing the contrast you mention. I was in DV once when it bloomed in February. I still treasure those memories and this is a nice reminder of what it was like.
This is nice, Dave. I like the desert marigolds (I think that's what they are). We've had a quite prolific and long lasting bloom here in southern Utah. Nothing better than color in the harshest places. It is as if they are more vibrant because of their surroundings. The large version really shows the color and detail.
The golden arc of flowers looks great, Dave, and the stark erosion forms behind make a good foil. I'm finding the whitish rocks top center somewhat distracting and think that cropping that out (to a more extreme pano) works well.
Nice. We didn't see any flowers in DV when we were there 2 years ago, but this brings back fond memories of a really amazing place. As you say, it illustrates the soft and harsh contrast of the place.
The lighting is a bit harsh, but it is fitting for the environment there. Nice patch of DV flowers and good background for them.
Colors are very different between the mountain and the FG and it's the charm of this picture. I like it.
