I watched this Pied-billed Grebe for at least 10 minutes trying to get this crab down. When it finally did, Murphy's Law dictated that there would be a clump of reeds between us, but I had fun shooting him trying, and trying, and trying again. This shot is from a pause in the attempts, but I liked the way it showed the crab and the nice eye contact.

8 commentsWhoa, that is one dedicated pie-billed grebe. Sweet catch for both of you, but I don't think he really wants to share his meal with you Dennis. Great eye contact! The texture in the background water is pretty cool too.
sweet image showing the crab and the bird with a look of annoyance on its face
This is Great Dennis, love it!
Excellent details and POV of the action, this little guy has hit the jackpot!!
And that's a mouthful
Well done!

I agree with Luke. The grebe looks very annoyed! The image definitely tells a story.
What a mouth full ! Great stuff.
They never give up do they ?

Very nice Dennis, the detail and comp are excellent. Hope he enjoyed his meal!
Cool shot Dennis, I have never seen a Pied-billed eating a crab before, I like the head on pose. I would prefer more of the reflection on the bottom and less room on the top.
Excellent catch Dennis, good eye contact.
