We went to Mammoth last weekend and found very little snow anywhere in the Sierras. They had one strip about a hundred feet wide that hundreds of die-hard skiers were clinging to in a last ditch effort to get some skiing in for the year. When a member of our party started to experience issues with altitude and having a hard time breathing we decided to ditch Mammoth and head over the top of Tioga Pass for Yosemite Valley. I can't recall being able to go through Yosemite over Tioga Pass on Memorial weekend. It is almost always closed for snow, and yet there it was open for all to use. As we neared the top of the pass and the entrance station, the misty rain started to turn misty white and it started to snow. A little bit of it even stuck to the trees and to the ground, although it was only 31 degrees F. This is a view of the Upper Tuolumne River from one of the pullouts along the way. Weird weather we are having this year. . .
