Invasive removal

I noticed a number of dead/dying trees along the lane to the nature center.  They were close to the railroad tracks and  first I thought it might be a railroad crew clearing track right of way.   But, as it turns out these trees were black locust, considered an invasive species in this area.  Each tree had an encircling cut which caused it to die.

Hi John,

The black locust is a very aggressive tree especially in prairie restoration.  The position of the girdled area in your shot is in the right spot...........................Jim

John, too bad about the infestation here. Nature has it's own way of hurting itself at times, this appears to be one of them....cheeky

Congratulations on the WP for this image, good story telling item......devil
