Couldn't think of a catchy title for this one, but I like the waythis female Goldfinch setled down on a fern.
7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL +1.4TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, f/5.6, 1/500, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, no compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 13.3MP, mostly off the right and top. Taken June 17th at 7:55 pm in my back yard.
I'm wondering if I should have removed some of the bright oof grasses in the upper left?
Your comments and criticisms are very welcome.

7 commentsMaybe try to tone them down a bit Dennis, think the nice relaxed bird keeps your eye on it rather than the BG,colours look really nice,

I'd leave the grass as it it. Love the fern perch, nice work Dennis. Ray
Nice image with a calm feel to it. I would leave the grasses as they are - not distracting to me...

I don't think you need to touch the grasses at all, Dennis.
I'm a real fan of natural looking backgrounds that have elements that make sense and not a perfect bird on a stick type. Not that bird on a stick images are bad, I just think it gets way overdone at times. The natural flow of color from the upper left, down through the Finch, keeps my eye from wandering too far away from the subject and pulls me back to her naturally. Well done as posted IMO.
HI Dennis
I had to go back a secound time to see the grasses in the upper left. The Goldfinch setts the [hotograph.

I think the color of the grass in the BG helps balance the image with the colors of the Goldfinch.
I also like how she is resting on the fern not showing her legs. I also like the head turn and detail. I am not bothered at all by the BG grasses you're referring to Dennis.
