An alpine breeder in Alaska, this little lark was photographed at Eagle Summit, at about 4,000 feet, earlier today. Eagle Summit is about 110 miles northeast of Fairbanks along the Steese Highway, and is an excellent place to see and photograph alpine breeding species. I used a narrower aperture to get the mosses and licchensin its perch into focus.
50% of full frame. Selective sharpening of bird and some brightening. We were between thunderstorms, and the bird hadn't quite dried out, giving its feathers a very slight sheen.
C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Especially the setting is very pleasing - nice species of course as well
. Image is a little dark, but I like the overall feel ! Cheers, Hans
Great angle, Jim, and excellent detail. I like the lichen perch. Thanks for the tip on Eagle Summit.
Larger image is very nice. Good color and comp. I like the feeling of the image. The bird appears to be alert in its environment.
Nice low angle Jim...definitely where I see the majority of Horned Larks (the ground). I like the surrounding habitat in this one as well.
