To my amazement, I spotted this Robber Fly Thursday morning, during a break in the 'deluge' here in Central Texas.
It was fairly docile, so it was easier than usual to get in close. Near full frame.
Beaten down, it's trying to dry itself in the morning sun. The good news is that by the time I was done shooting, it was on its killing spree way![]()

. I could not resist. Seriously, the robber fly and flower are woven together in an interesting composition. My only suggestion is to bump up the shadows a tiny bit. The robber fly has some incredible details and the large view is a must see

Interesting in that this fly looks like it's hunkered down (or maybe that's beaten down). You've got excellent details nicely framed here, Howard, plus the yellow on the fly's back matches well with the Black-eyed Susan.
I'm tellin' ya, Howard, they grow em big in Texas. Just look at the size of that balck eyed susan!
Seriously, that's a fly? We have birds smaller than that in Ohio. Anyway, terrific find and photo. The detail in the fly is terrific, and the fly and flower are very nicely separated from the smooth bg.
Howard ..thats a lot of detail ...the larger version tells it all. Well done..

This is another from the series, I think I like this version a bit better..
