I caught these Metallic Wood Boring Beetles mating this morning around 10:00am under partly cloudy skies.
They were shot using ISO 400, thought I was at 500. The higher ISO would've let me shoot a bit faster since there was flower sway from the air, and some movement from the beetles. (The male was just making entry, and doing some odd intermittent fast gyrations/shaking). I quess you'd call that 'Good Vibrations' in the bug world![]()

3 commentsFine capture of the mating behavior, Howard. The tiny bit of movement captured in the male goes helps depict the action.
Neat catch, Howard. The only movement I see in the male are his antennae, I can count the hairs on the rest of his body.
Hi Howard,
Good job snagging these Acmaeodora doing their thing. Focus looks good and a touch of motion blur on the male's antennae and am surprised that you did not get any of the eye facets to pop up...........................Jim
