Probably the last of these I'll be posting for awhile. During my little one minute session with this bird it was nice enough to rise and hover above the Monarda for a few seconds with the flower bed for a nice oof bg. I got two decent shots out of it. I preferred the wing position in this one, though I do wish it had been turned slightly toward me rather than slightly away.
7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, f/6.3, 1/2500, iso 1000, aperture priority, pattern metering with -2/3 stop compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 13.5MP. Taken at 6:08 am on July 5th.
Thanks for your input on my hummingbird garden post and I look forward to hearing from you on this one.

8 commentsYour entire Rufous series is very warm Dennis. I just posted another and made the comment about how different our images appear.
I will need to get up a little earlier to see if I can duplicate the warmth you have created with your series of images. Well done.
This last one really pops.
The early light has helped set this one apart Dennis.. way apart.
You need to talk to David about that "warm orange brown fuzzy glow" thing BTW
Couldn't be better, excellent hummer shot

Beautiful, Denis.
Larger image show really nice details
Dennis,
Wonderful pose the detail isgreat and the background perect, nothing else needs saying.
Dennis: previous commenters have written the well deserved accolades. All I can add is ditto, what a great shot. Richard
Hi Dennis
You are righ. The time of day, make a big differance in the color of the light. Nice hummingbird.

Really beautiful background here Dennis, I agree with you that a little better angle would have put this over the top but still a sweet image with great detail.
Lovely rufous image. Perhaps my favorite of the series. Very sharp, nice light, with good wing position. Killer OOF colorful background makes the image for me. These guys should start migrating back through northern Cal next month. Can't wait. Thanks for posting,
