Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted July 24, 201561 views3 comments

Right next to my backcountry camp in Colorado National Monument. I was thinking of Tony K's work when I made this image and certainly when I processed it, taking some liberties with the color/saturation

I'm never sure which gallery to post these kind of images. To me, this is a close-up, not a landscape, but I often see these type of shots in the landscape gallery. Anyway, it's about one meter, top to bottom.

Well seen and photographed, Dave. The processing looks quite natural to me - maybe a bit warm, but if you said that this was what the colors looked like to your eye, I would not question it. In other words, it looks very natural to me and not an artisitc interpretation like a lot of Tony's. Frankly, when I first looked at this, I had no idea of the scale - i.e., whether this was a close up or a canyon posted in the wrong forum. Nothing wrong with that, of course. It's a cool little miniscape with interesting features. Regarding where to post, the discussions ealier this year (?) on this topic tell me you can post this either here or in landscape. It's really your call.  Nice of you to post it here, however. Bees, butterflies, dragonflies and spiders are all great, but it's always nice to see something different, too. crying

Dave, this is a fine intimate landscape with lots of details and attractive subtle colors.  I'm wondering how this would look if you had backed away just a bit more.  That throught is driven by wanting to see "the rest" of what I think is a little rock peeking in from the upper right edge.

After breaking my neck looking at this picture in various orientations, I actually think I might prefer it rotated 90 deg CW, even though this works fine as well. Other than that I wouldn't change a thing. The subtle colors are very nice, while still looking very natural, despite your liberties with the saturation.
