Red Mountain

Last week's trip to the San Juan Mountains of Colorado included a night on the pass overlooking Red Mountain.  The clouds from the afternoon rains shrouded the view for a few hours until sunset.

Nice color and contrast, especially the reds against the greens and the clouds. You might consider a crop from the right to bring the summit of the mountain more toward the center of the frame. I'm on the fence with the road, though. I like the clouds hanging on the peak.

This is a great view, Doug, with a fine mood.  I like how the peak is semi-obscured by cloud and the cloudy sky with lots of details.  My sense of irony is enjoying the scree field coming in from the left that looks a lot like a two wheel track road and then it mingles with the road coming in from the right.

They need to move that trailhead a half mile to the right!

I find the road to be distracting from the show of clouds up on the mountain which you have depicted very nicely. Although the foreground rock and patterns are interesting, I would probably make a pano crop of the top half if it were mine.

Thanks for the feedback.

Preston - I did not think of the roads below when I posted.  Feel free to move the post to Man & Nature.  I will try a small crop on the right to help center the main peak.

Mark, I certainly would not want to drive down that scree slope on that virtual path ;-)

The intensity in the rocky parts is very nice, as is the contrast with the greens. Too bad about the road, but what can you do?! The clouds are a great detail as well, they do seem to have a bit of a magenta cast to it in my eyes (esp left part).

I really like the clouds and mood. The reds look good against the clouds, too. Excellent sweeping lines. The image works nicely.
