Its very typical for Ospreys to fly out to open water areas during the mid afternoon and dive into the water. They are not fishing but are either bathing or just cooling off or both. They will flop around and submerge several times before returning to there perch for a long grooming session. That is what this older female had just completed and returned to a perch close to our location to shake off the water. The back lighting from the afternoon sun really highlighted the water droplets. Hand held from boat, 60% of full frame.

Well done.
I agree with Dennis wholeheartedly! The Osprey has a hilarious "What are you looking at?" seriousness about her. A great shot, Mike!
Very cool image, Mike! I love the pose, the fluffed up look to the feathers, and the backlit water drops.
Very beautiful image, Mike.
Lovely backlit image Mike. Love the highlighted tail feathers and the water droplets. Nice work!
Really like the flying water Mike and nice job on the backlit subject!
Excellent work handling the the backlight so beautifully here Mike. Great behavior you captured, but the water drops puts this one over the top for me.
Sweet One

Mike: the look on the bird's face, the feather detail, the water droplets and the oof background all combine to make an escellent image. Congrats. Richard
The larger version is sweet Mike, love the spray, the spider web and the pose.
This is a very nice capture Mike. I really like the light on the bird with the darker background. It really pops.

Man, what can you say...outstanding capture Mike. It sounds like everyone agrees. It's very cool that you captured so much action with a perched bird. Great DOF. Love it!
