The one benefit of using fill is that whatever direction the light's coming from, you can get the shot.. When you otherwise wouldn't.

Downside is the lack of a totally natural look of course.

F/22, 1/200th, ISO 500, 5DM2, 300mm f/2.8 + 2x ext. & fill flash @ 12:12pm and mostly sunny.

Have a great Sunday & thanx for lookin'crying

Outstanding as usual, Howard. The lighting looks very good (and natural) to me, even in the wood perch. Excellent capture of the colors and details. I like that you were able to get the perch nice and sharp as well. It goes well with the DF.  devil

I like the effect of flash that you get and consequently the high f number which gives sharp images throughout. The lighting looks very good it just looks as though the sun has caught the dragonfly. I still haven't tried this yet. Graham

Maybe it's because I don't use flash, but this looks natural to me, Howard.  The details in that eye as seen in the larger version are amazing.  It's also neat how those details are mimicked (or maybe it's the other way around) by the colors in the body.  This is a great view, well framed against a fine background.
