I used 32mm of extension on the 600mm f5.6. Success was fairly low with several OK images captured. This is one of the better images, but not quite happy with it. Either more extension or using a teleconverter to make the dragonfly bigger in the frame is necessary. Focusing in moderate wind was difficult. Let me what you think--I like the BG the best in this image. K5 IIs 600mm F5.6 32mm extension (1/320sec at f11, ISO 800)Topaz Detail, Levels, Brightness and Contrast.........................Jim

Great smooth background and magnification just about right to completely encompass the wings. If anything the perch appears a little hot.
You can use a tele on that f/5.6 but will need a lot of light to use it as you know.. Filling the frame as much as possible is the holy grail of macro, so there's no replacement for just getting physically close enough.. again as you already know.
Don't know what you ended up with res wise, not stated. But this web presentation look good to me, I think the BG works very well also Jim...
Jim, I see these briefly by my pond about once a summer for a very short time and they do tend to be shy. This is a good look at this one against a fine background. I agree that the perch looks a bit hot, particularly the oof parts. Should you try the teleconverter + extension approach, you get the most magnification by putting the extenstion tube(s) between the lens and the teleconverter.
Most excellent capture, Jim ! Lovely light, great sharpness and, above all, an airy feel to the image which makes it stand out for me.
Jim, I like the composition and background. Beautiful subject and presentation.
