I really haven't a clue whether the juvie is a male or female or if there's any relation between the two, but it sounds neat.
7Dii, Sigma 150-600mm contemporary at 600mm, hand held, f/11, 1/640, iso 640, Aperture priority, pattern metering, +2/3 stop compensation to account for the sky bg. Processed in LR5 & CS6. This is actually a composite of two successive horizontal images. Even at f/11 I didn't have enough dof to get the crispness I wanted in both birds so I stole the juvie and a bit of the perch from one frame and replaced that part of the image in the adjacent frame. I processed each bird separately and used a bit of blur where the splice in the perch occurred. I then cropped from the sides and added canvas to the top to get the format I preferred. The final size after all that was 17.8 MP. Taken in the back yard on August 20th at 7:20 pm.

5 commentsExcellent plane of focus/use of F/11 to bring them both in sharply Dennis!
Both present well with a great pose, facing in opposite directions..
I see ya left room up top for the magazine header too, good call
Well done!
An excellent parent & offsrping portraiture here, Dennis......
The unobstructed sky made the perfect backdrop for this image too......
Nice job on this one Dennis. Good light and poses from both birds. And nice photoshop work getting them both together on the same perch. Looks totally natural.
That juvie has eaten well. Great comp Dennis, both birds look very sharp and posed beautifully for you. Really sweet shot!
Wow, really nice PS work. If possible, consider cropping to move both birds a little further up in the frame?
