Nothing like Minor League baseball in the Summer in the South. This was a Savannah Sand Gnats (SALeague) game last weekend. It wound up in the books as a tie, 1—1, called in the fifth because of a frog choker thunderstorm. Gotta love it!
Interesting to photograph. The entire gallery area is enclosed from roof to floor with a strong string mesh. The only way to autofocus through it is to scrunch down, put the lens right at the mesh and fire away. Fun when a foul like the one shown hits the mesh in front of you, or a strong breeze pulls/pushes the mesh, which then acts like a giant sail. The attached photo below gives one an idea of both the mesh and the strong thunderstorm that shut the game down.
Thanks for looking. I enjoyed doing some different photography for a change from flowers, birds and macros!

Nice action shot, Phil. It took me a second to find the ball. Sure looks like a 'frog choaker' storm.

Nice stop action photo, Phil. Gosh, and as far as the thunderstorm, well now, out here in So Cal we are all praying for ANY rain.
Great job on improvising Phil, excellent 'foul ball' stop action shot!!
Too bad the game was called.. at least you came away with this fine shot
From flowers to birds to sports. You are most versatile. Love this photo. It has a Rockwell feel to it. The subtle OOF background brings more attention to the player. Until I read your description I was unaware of the ball.
