He allowed me to take a number of shots, but I liked the one with the feathers ruffled. Do you find the shadow a distracting element?
Thanks for looking. Comments and suggestions appreciated.

13 commentsGreat shot here, Allen. There are a couple of these hanging around a nearby pond that I can't get close to. The exposure is right on as well as the focus and comp. The long shadow does distract, and maybe the dark spot along the left edge in the duck week. A little cleanup of those and the few dark spots above the head wouldn't hurt. Having said all that, I wish I could get a photo of this bird that is this good. Well done.
I like the shadow, Allen. Excellent detail in the Heron and a lovely composition.
No nits--fluffed feathers look great and the shadow looks like its part of the scene........................Jim
I’m very impressed Allen, by the exquisite detail and colours of the bird. In no way do I find the shadows distracting; in fact think they enhance the 3d aspect of the picture. On the other hand I’m not too happy with the dark area mid way up the left region – this I find bothersome.
Excellent as posted (birds shadow in) with the one caveat.. The shadow on the left is easily removed, there's nothing connected with it within your frame. It has to go
Very nice Allen
Thank you all for the comments. I've re-posted with the left hand shadow removed and the background cleaned up to remove some of the darker spots.
PS: This is why I belong to NPN. Where else can you get this type of helpful feedback and in such a timely manner?
I gree with leaving the shadow, it adds a bit of depth to the image IMO. Nice detail in the Heron too. I would like to run into some of these someday. Well done!
Very well done. Repost better not that the original wasn't good. The sharpness and the colors here are very good.
Excellent details and lighting and I like the comp. I wish for more of a head turn but they don't always cooperate, nicely done Allen
To me, this gorgeous repost looks even better but there is small nit, namely the thrice repeated feature in the BG to left of the bird’s beak. Reading these areas from right to left and using clone stamp, I’d target the vague area between 1and 2, click right then click left. Good luck.

Plesant first post, and even more pleasant re-post. The bird itself stand out nicely and displays it's typical pose. A slightly lower angle maye could have made the image even stronger, but for it works as presented. Cheers, Hans
Sweet pose you captured of this handsome heron in great habitat. I like the re-post a bit better also.
Sweet One Allen!
I like the mossy water and clean image. Nice work on the repost
