Detail #1 / Sep 2015
This scene depicts a small section of the tall chest in my study. It is made of reclaimed wood and some metal face plates. I liked how the afternoon light, diffused by the sheer blinds, gently lit the different panels, showing off the rough texture and the defects that together give this type of furniture its unique character.
Canon 5Ds R, 24-70mm @ 65mm, 0.5 sec, f/4, ISO 100 / Photoshop CC
Your thoughts on this photograph are most appreciated.
Thanks.

9 commentsWay cool! Love the juxtaposition of textures and the terrific detail and color in the wood. The metal handle is a great counterpoint.
Beautiful richness in detail and color. I'm wondering what you think of the images that you are producing with the 5DS compared to the old Pentax you used for years. Could you comment on that. The 24-70mm lens is not one of the sharpest zoom lenses. You could probably get greater sharpness. This does have the feeling of a medium format image, though.
@ Igor:
This is the first photo from the new camera. I had just completed reading the section of the instruction guide that talks about manual focusing with live view, and felt the need to make a picture to see how this all works out in practice. So, I think it is too early to say how the images from the 5Ds R compare with the ones I got from the Pentax 67ii. I should be able to provide you with a better answer after I have gone through the process a little more. Remember, this is also the first time I am working with RAW files and Photoshop CC.
I normally would not have put this up here, but since there is so much talk on NPN these days about low activity, I thought here was a nice opportunity to post something after a very (very) long time.
Regarding the lens, I got the 24-70 f/2.8 L II zoom with the understanding that is a very sharp lens. Is this not really the case? I get quite confused with the different lenses that Cannon offers. It was so easy purchasing the Pentax medium format lenses -- they had just one lens (their best) for each focal length.
My kind of image! I like this a lot. Great detail, nice grain, color and very nicely abstract.
Anil, this looks like it worked exceptionally well as a test shot for the new gear. The horizontals, verticals, colors (dark & light), smooth & rough surfaces all provided a strong variation to test with.
That all said it came out looking darn good to me. I like it.......
btw: still lots of folks on APUG using the old Pentax 67's......
I can only echo the comments above - thanks for posting this!
Love the abstract quality. Nice paly on textures between the smooth siding and the rough door !
This is my kind of image, too, Anil. I like this a lot. The cool left side contrasts nicely with warm right side and the hints of color in the old wood add a nice touch. I like how the cabinet pull relates to the knot below it. Nice abstract!
