Victims of Technology

Since my background is in Videography, I thought it would be appropriate to include in this WC a couple of cameras that were 'State of the Art' back in their day (a mere 12 years ago) that have become victims of technology. These two DV Cams using the Mini DV SD format are the JVC GY-DV500 and the Sony DSR-PD170. Two 'Work Horse' cameras that served me well thru the years and used on many projects that won me several top awards, a few are pictured. The introduction of High Definition Video made these two obsolete for commercial and professional use literally overnight. The HD technology is changing so rapidly that buying a new camera is not a wise decision, you are better off renting the needed HD equipment to suit the required specifications for a particular project. The introduction of HD reminded me of my teenage years: One day I was driving around in my first car grooving to the sounds of the Allman Brothers coming thru the speakers connected to my 8 Track Tape player and the next day, if you didn't have a Cassette player, you were way behind the times.
Both of these cameras are for sale and produce top quality SD video and audio if anyone is interested, included are a vast array of accessories.

Mike, I can relate - I have a Canon EOS 1n 35mm body (in like-new condition) that I paid about $1600 for which is now worth next-to-nothing.  I should post that for this WC as well.

Nice set-up for the shot!

Here I was expecting a selfie, or maybe a shot of the two of us in Florida...  Another finely set up shot, Mike.  That looks like a major investment to have go obsolete overnight.

Mike, first and foremost congratulations on this stellar collection honors. Seems to add a bit of history or background to your needing or having this hardware on hand. Looking at the size of this stuff brings to mind the bulk I still haul around to date with MF & LF gear. Of course technology has pushed all of our weighty gear to the back room more or less.

Thanks for sharing a look at another era and another world of photography / video......cool

Nicely photographed.  Had not even thought about video gear.  TFS.
