Leap of Youth

I have just returned from 16 days of traipsing around Kenya (hosting a Great Migration photo safari), Hong Kong (quite a contrast, I know, was on commission for Nikon Asia) and finally the forests of Magoebaskloof in South Africa.

Our time in the Mara was characterised by a sizeable number of insanely dramatic and dusty river crossings - more than I've had on any previous trip. Our guests loved it and with them nailing images like this the smiles were broad all around...

Techs:

Nikon D810

Nikkor 400mm f2.8 VR-II (man, this lens is light!)

f8.0  |  1/2000 SS  |  ISO-280

Amazing capture Morkel. Looks like this guy is levitating. Love the moody feel to it.

Morkel: think this one would be better named Leap of Faith.  cool  It's a fabulous photo with dust, a mid air wildebeeste, one in the water, a diagonal formed by the herd and the list goes on. Could not be improved on. Richard

Morkel, I really dig the comp on this. The angel of the herd coming form the left, the whirlwind of dust, the single leaping Wildebeest and a swimmer to boot. Really nice work!

I agree most emphatically with the other comments. Not only is the visible image excellent, but also what isn't visible (but we know is present) adds  immensley to the image. I experience a feeling of suspense and foreboding about the plight of the young wildebeeste-is a croc lurking nearby?

Thanks a lot folks.

The title "Leap of Faith" did cross my mind but I have seen SO many of these migration photos with the same title that it felt cheesy, so I opted for the title in use ;)

This is one fine shot Morkel. Everything works here for me but specially the low angle which is difficult to get in most of the crossing points
