Since I don't do a lot of landscape or people, my wife takes most of the vacation shots. However, perhaps this one has the feel of the sandier parts of the Oregon Coast. Taken at South Beach State Park (handy to the very good Oregon Coast Aquarium and some nice seafood).
7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, hand held on my belly, f/7.1, 1/5000, iso640, manual exposure, pattern metering. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped from top and bottom (mostly top) and just a tiny bit off the sides. A tiny bit of sharpening of the in-focus band of the beach and some cleanup of some oof foreground blobs. Final size is 14.8MP. Taken at 8:44 am on June 11th.
I appreciate the comments on my wave images and look forward to your input on this one.
Thanks,

5 commentsDennis, I didn't know that beaches ever got this lonely (and I've had the pleasure of visiting some of the Oregon beaches once). This is definitely not your typical beach shot, with that lone gull hunkered down. The soft light lets the detailed regions in the sand show well and the muted, blue-gray tones create a fine sense of quiet contemplation.
Dennis: my initial reation was one of this image could use some contrast. But then as I looked at more, I really came to like it. It's simple, low key and a very good example of "less is more". Richard
