The Scream

With sincerest apologies to Edvard Munch.  I knew I'd enter my wife and the ogre (trust a tree-hugger to cuckold me with a Redwood!) but I was looking for something else to try without a lot of success.  I took a some shots of a driftwood rootwad on Dungeness Spit just for the cool forms and grain and when I looked at it, this face jumped out at me.  I did select the face and augment contrast in Topaz Detail to make it pop a bit more from the bg grain.

5Diii, 28-70/f2.8L @ 70mm, f/14, 1/400, iso 320, aperture priority, pattern metering, no compensation.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 6.5MP from a horizontal original after rotating about 70º CCW.  Taken at 2:26 pm on October 15th.

Thanks for looking,

Clearly not as friendly as the ogre, Dennis!  It's also much more subtle.  Looks like some sort of alien to me.

Dennis, when I first saw the image, I was thinking that a bit more contrast in the "face" would be good, then I read your description and see that you've already done that.  Further review of the large version makes it clear where you've done that, to do a good job of letting the "face" draw most of the attention.  Good job of seeing and presenting.

Sorry Dennis, didn't mean to step on your photo title.  But, I have found in your photo a dinosaur face and a fox face!  Really!  A  fun image.
