Spring Rites

Every year in early to mid April I spend some time in a local wooded riparian area photographing the woodland wildflowers.  This is a small-flowered trillium (Trillium parviflorum), a local endemic, from a couple of years ago.

5Diii, 180mm f3.5 macro, tripod as low as it can go, f/16, 1/15 sec, iso 500, aperture priority, manual focus.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped from a horizontal image.  Final size is 7.7 Mpixels.  Taken on April 11th, 2013 at 4:14 pm.

This should be a fun challenge.

Dennis, I had not even thought about seasonal plants up close like this as much as such things as aspen trees for this WC.
This was a good idea and opens up some further or future ideas for posting in this particular WC too.
I like the beauty of this plant. Almost seems more like something found in a greenhouse then an open riparian area. Very nice find.

Trillium are a favorite wildflower of mine, Dennis.  This is a fine look at this one just opening up, with the lead in of the leaves at the bottom and fine details in the petals.  Like Paul, I hadn't thought about flowers (or trees) just starting to bloom as part of this theme but agree that it's a good idea and fits very well.  Your idea can also be extended to a tree where some of it's leave have turned while others are still green.

Love the perspective, Dennis - it creates a quiet mood which seems nicely to catch the spirit of this lovely flower.

I have been so caught up in autumn leaves that I almost missed this.  So glad I took a look for two reasons: first, it makes me think of the wonderful coming of spring; and sedondly, it just a wonderful, unique view of this flower.  Your POV makes the plant create its own graphical environment, with the leaves pulling us into the scene to closely examine the beauty of the flower in this nice even light.
