Summer to Winter

From last Thanksgiving on Vachon Island, a short ferry ride from Seattle. An unseasonably cold and stormy night dropped some significant snow on these unsuspecting ferns right at sea level. I would imagine that brought them quickly from summer green to winter brown, virtually skipping autumn altogether.

Actually Dave, this is the Evergreen State unlike California and the ferns stay green year round.  You have some Alder and Doug Fir here along with the snowy ferns.  Nice contrast. Large image looks better.  Nice comp. BTW, it is Vashon Island.  I missed this or we did not get any  visable snow last year here further south in Olympia.

Thanks for the corrections, David! Goes to show what Californians know about greenery these days ;-)

Dave, this is very nicely graphic with the tree trunks set against the snow covered ferns.  A repeated pattern image like this is hard to pull off and you've done very well here.

Nice capture of what looks to be unusual combination, Dave - - nice green ferns and snow.  Like Mark, I like the pattern of snow covered ferns and tree trunks.

Green ferns and snow? I have never seen that combination I think, and you turned it into a very nice photo as well. Nice work!

Nice!  The tree trunks contrast nicely with the snowy ferns, and I really like the composition. It's hard to make something that could be busy look so cohesive.  Nice work.

I like this shot very much and not an easy one to pull off from my experience. My attempts at this kind of shot are always to contrasty and busy...nicely done.

Hi  Dave crying You have captured an  unusual mix ...love the patterns of snow and  fern,  which  work very well for this theme.
