Snooker

I have posted several images in this gallery from my trip to westernmost Mongolia.  This is a square in Bayan-Olgi, the provincal capital of the largely Khazak/Muslim region of Western Mongolia near the area where many of the eagle hunters live.  The stoves in front are typical of those used to heat the Ger or yurts that many nomadic mongolians use as home.  I have never seen an outdoor pool hall before.  Men only here.  And after shooting for a few minutes, I was asked politely to leave because the men did not wish that their wives find out they had been here.  An interesting cultural find on the road of travel...  Altai Mountains of Central Asia in BG.  View large, though noisy.

Cool. Trouble, oh we got trouble, right here in Bayan-Olgi! With a capital "T", that rhymes with "P", and that stands for Pool!sad

Interesting where culture takes one!

Real nice cultural shot, with a fine sky to top it off. What a great insight into life in that area and what a strange juxtaposition of elements!!

David: never would have imagined a scene like this in Mongolia. It leaves me wondering who introduced snooker to the Mongolians and what do the folks do with the tables when the weather is bad. cool Richard

A very interesting subject, and an image beautifully processed to a crisp finish.  I like the unusual composition, with the fg stoves and the player to the extreme L drawing attention to the scene as a whole.  Very nicely done !

David,
This is a wonderful evocative image.  I cannot help but wonder how long until it rains, and what they do to protect the tables.  It is certainly unusual.  The back story makes this image all the more powerful.
