When I read the theme for this week, my mind instantly thought of my photos from Watkins Glen State Park. This park is located in the Finger Lakes region of New York and is an amazing place to photograph.  You can walk 2 miles along a gorge that passes 19 waterfalls, on stone pathways and over stone bridges that perfectly complement the nature of the gorge.  I highly recommend a visit to this park.

Great image - this is a place I need to get to sooner than later.  My only nit with this image is that it hasn't been pushed far enough.  I played around with it in Photoshop and some other apps and there is so much more depth that can be pulled out from all of the different colors hiding in this composition.  I know it's easy to end up with something oversaturated and surreal - but the image looks a bit flat and I'm guessing that's because you were trying to balance the deep shadows and the bright spots on the falls.  A CPL filter would have helped - but in the absence of that I would try some selective saturation and curves bumps - particularly with the top 1/3 of the image

Thanks for your suggestions Luke.  I processed this image back in 2008 when I took it.   I'm a lot better at processing now and I need to give it a redo!

Very nice, Carol. Excellent for the theme. My only questions is: where are all the people? I went there on a prime fall weekend a couple years ago and it was crazy.

I will echo Luke. Also, it looks like there is a cropping error in the LRC (the wedge of white along the the lower right side).

Carol,  I too was thinking about the falls and gorges around the finger lakes for this topic.  I got to Ithaca, NY a couple of times but it was before I switched to digital.  I like your view here, especially with the fallen leaves, that trickle of water falling in on the left and the action in the plunge pool at the bottom.  This looks very realistic to me and conveys the challenging lighting conditions that the steep walls and dark rocks create.

What cool rocks, Carol.  Looks like a geologist's dream location.  I like your treatment of the waterfalls.

I didn't know this was in Watkins Glen.  It could be a limestone  side canyon in the Grand Canyon. Nice perspective.

As already pointed out, there's a little white wedge in the lower right corner.  Easy fix.  I really, really like your composition.  There's a lot of great detail and I like your shutter speed choice.  It could benefit from a bit of unsharp mask or increase in contrast to make things pop a bit more.  I always find it fun to go back to old favorite and re-process them as my skills get better - I'll bet you would do better this time around!  It is just lovely as posted, and looks like an awesome place to shoot.
