Chocolate Canyon

This is the top of a fairly small dark brown sandstone boulder that is embedded in the floor of a dry wash.  The exposed portion of the boulder has been exquisitely sculpted by flash flooding over time.  Sand, pebbles and small stones have been deposited in the sculpted crevices of the boulder during more recent flash flooding.  The vantage point for this composition is about four feet directly over the boulder with the camera pointed straight down.

What a fine image, some beautiful contrasting colors. The texture lines in the sandstone provide a nice depth and dimesion to the photo. Nice work.

Excellent, Jim.  I really like the contrasting colors, the shapes and then the flow of the whole image. I like it a lot.

Like a river of pebbles flowing out of the rocks. Beautiful colour combination. I like the contrats between the smooth gentle forms of the brown rock and the little busy shapes and forms of the pebbles. The grey boulder is a restpoint for the eye. Wonderful light btw.

Jim,

Wonderful image from the canyons. What makes this appealing and successful for me is the grace, flow and graphic design of this intimate scene.  This is excellent!  The colors are understated, which is to say that you did a great job avoiding the temptation of bringing too much color. Very well seen and processed.

What I like most is that I don't really get a sense of the scale, which gives space for the imagination to run a bit wild. Very nice "rock river"!

A nice little slice of the Chocolate Pie? A warm and intimate view that draws me in and makes me wonder what is outside of the view. Various colors interplay with each other provides an interesting visual treat.

Fine piece of work, Jim.  I really like how the pebbles and smaller stones lead my eye into the scene.

Lovely.  Just wonderfully seen, shot, and processed. I might be tempted to go just a tish brighter, but not if that messes with color too much.

Very well done Jim.  Love how the smaller rocks contrast and conform so well to the sand stone. Way cool.

I like this one a lot, Jim. The competing textures and lines work very well. I also like the undertstated color and the nicely balanced compositon.
