Stormy Crossing

A massive river crossing our guests witnessed in the Mara Triangle recently. Can you spot the hippo? I used a slow shutter speed to try and capture the intensity of the moment.

The use of a slow shutter speed captures "the intensity of the moment" very nicely. Found the hipps.  Is that a croc in the lower right?

Hi Morkel,

I very much like the expansiveness of this scene and how you've placed/arranged the subject matter (definitely including the side/lateral flow of the animals crossing the river). Processing of the image (especially the sky) looks extremely well done.

Like with John's elkscape, I'm a bit surprised by the lack of comments on the image. I suspect it's due to the same reason - images like this shine most brightly when presented as a large print (and online presentation simply doesn't do them justice).

I'm not sure the slow shutter speed - and corresponding blurring of the line of animals in the foreground - contributes too much to the overall image. For me they're just too small of a part of the scene to have that blur make much impact (and I acknowledge that this may change is the image was made into a large print). But I'd never say that the motion blur detracts (to me it just doesn't ADD a whole lot).

Cheers...and keep the 'scapes coming!
