Welcome To Hwange
by Ken Watkins
Many people wonder why we visit Hwange so often. The explanation is quite simple it is truly Africa, the game viewing is not spectacular if you are after the Big 5, nothing is guaranteed and unexpected sightings are the norm.
Plenty of Antelope though and of course the best Elephant sightings we have ever seen.
Here is a "typical" image taken as we drove in from Main Camp on our way to our camp site at Ngweshla.

8 commentsan image I like very much, since you managed the side light very well. I never have been in Hwange but the photo for me really transfers a lot of the feelings one may associate with Africa.
Just a wonderful feel to this one, Ken. Not a "typical" image by any stretch, IMO. Great work on the dramatic light. The textures are fantastic but the most appealing aspect is certainly the youngster peeking through the legs at you. I think the green canopy in the background adds a great deal here as well. Beautiful.

PS. I was just toying with an idea, doing a tight vertical with just forelegs.
Love the protective posture of the mother and the vulnerable calf. Warm side lighting adds to the warmth of the scene. Great!
Cheers,
Hisham.
