Guillemots, A bit 'Arty'

Our little 1953 ice breaker is quite a cool vessel IMHO, however getting out in the zodiac just provided so much scope for other opportunities and thinking. In this particular area we just killed the motor and let ourselves drift around where Black Guillemots were swimming and we were presented with this lovely ice berg a gorgeous backdrop, swamping all below it. Not so worried about detail here, I just like the overall atmosphere and etherial POV.

Steve:
This is REALLY cool.  Love the feeling this image creates.  The cool tones of the blues all work together then the birds break the pattern and it just feels nice.  Super work.  Love it.

The iceberg certainly makes a wonderful backdrop and is most of the subject of this image, but the Guillemots do make a nice accent.  Lovely image.

Stephen,

these are the type of images I often miss in many galleries, forums, etc. Really fantastic and it shows that photgraphy actually is art devil

Love the mood in this photo, Steve. Never having seen a real ice berg, this is impressive.

Thanks guys, very much appreciated and Cay-Uwe, yes it was a nice encounter, but more importntly to have the opportunity.

As I said before, this year was to push both me and my thinking, the kit is a given, but also aided by/with some fine tuning by Canon and a greater awareness of how far you can push, rely on your kit to achieve things. You can take everything with you in a landrover if you are on safari, no problem, but in a zodiac you need to plan and what will be, will be, but you then have to be creative in your thinking and execution.

Keith B, many thanks indeed!

Wow on more place to go to, excellent take in a artistic and surreal way, yes and detail would kill the dreamlike nature of this great image.

Wonderful surroundings for a very pleasant result, Stephen.  This is an excellent example of how the environment can provide a context for most any nature composition.

One of my favorite little birds, but I have never seen them in this context before. Nice composition. Stunning!
