BooKoo' Color!

On the first day of my trip up to the Olympic Peninsula, We stopped at Silver Falls State Park. It was raining pretty hard, but I spent about an hour not getting any good shots around South Falls. This one was from the parking lot before we left. Still raining, and a little wind induced movement. The color sliders were not touched for this one! I went back the following week on our return trip. Most of the foliage was gone in this spot. But there was still a lot of yellow from what I think must have been Big Leaf Maple. I managed to recapture a shot from about ten years ago, that has been bugging me, because I flubbed it. For a future post!

Chris,

Gorgeous colors!  At first I thought maybe you found this up high on 120 as the Dogwood was changing this fall, but then I see the moss covered branches and thought, not.  I love the color as I mentioned and the processing is excellent.

It may be a stretch to critique this, but I almost feel like this is a bit unbalanced.  Most of the leaning, attention is the right 2/3 of the frame, with the big trunk acting as a natural framing element.  But then I love the added color, especially the reds on the left edge and still I have this urge to crop a little off the left.  In the end though, I think you've chose wisely in your presentation.  Even the upper right with the forest provides some depth and context.  It's a beautiful scene.

Yes, the colors pop well here, Chris.  I had a similar experience years ago shooting fall color in Vermont, where a three day in a constant drizzle produced some of the best colors that I'd ever seen on film.  This is a warm, inviting view with a fine focus on the tree trunk and the colors in the shrubs on the rhs and lots of depth.

Hi Chris,

Of course the colors are wonderful in this image, and this image conveys a portrait of autumn very well. I feel very comforted while enjoying this scene, and beautiful work.
I think the composition works as presented, but I can see a crop from the left too as Lon has mentioned.

This is an exquisite image. I really admire your post processing skills. There is just enough here to improve the image yet appear as though nothing has been done, i.e. still look natural. Post processing is like putting on make up. The most attractive women look as though they're not wearing any.

I tend to not agree with the crop from the left. The closer that leaning tree is to the border the more obvious it's lean and the more awkward it looks.
