B&W mountain landscape

Hello everyone, I come back after a long absence to post an image. With this landscape in black and white I tried to bring out the ice in the foreground. I await your comments on photos and suggestions on how to improve the technique of conversion to B & W. For this image I used Silver Efex Pro. Thank you.

I like the composition overall. The tones in the ice look very nice, with good texture. I think this would have more impact if the the blue in the sky were darker and there was a bit more detail in the clouds. It's a nice muntain scene.

Welcome back!

This is a nice b/w, Roberto.  I love the ice detail in the foreground.  In fact, I like it so much, I wonder if you have a comp centered more on the ice as an abstact. I think I would dodge the rocks on the left and even mid-frame.  There is some haloing along the highest ridgeline and leser peak on the left. I agree with Preston on darkening the sky and adding more contrast there.

Roberto,

Great choice for the b&w on this snowy, icy mountain landscape.  I think you did a good job all around with this.  I was thinking after reading the first two comments, that I was going to draw something from each.  I really think Preston's idea of darkening the sky would have a great impact on this - thinking AA-like... ;-)  But also, Gary is on to something because I think the greatest interest in the scene is the ice patterns in the foreground.  They are almost too small in the wider view; I would sure like to get a closer look.

I will say that as captured and presented, you've got a very well composed and balanced mountain landscape image.

Thanks to all for helpful suggestions. Ice is certainly the most interesting element in the photo. I also took some close-up pictures of detail. Maybe I will post in the most appropriate macro/close-up gallery.

This is a really nice view, but the real star is indeed the really nice ice pattern, so I too would love to see a version with more attention on that part. But that doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with this one though, this is very nice!

Hi Roberto,

The foreground is really stimulating, and it brings me beautifully into the scene. I like the idea of trying to target the blue channel to bring down the sky a bit to have more impact there. Some very nice work as is, and nice job on the composition.
