Not a Pattern

Gallery: Weekly ChallengePosted December 16, 201566 views6 comments
Formed by water, but the only pattern is the edges.  This is a chunk of the Alvord Desert in south eastern Oregon.  Looking for a change of pace in this theme, I remembered that I'd taken a few shots of this when I was in the area in March.

On the subject of change of pace-do we have any cavers out there?  I'd love to see some limestone caverns in this challenge.

5D3, 28-70mm f2.8L @ 65mm, tripod, f/16, 1/800, iso 400, aperture prioirity, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Straightened a touch and cropped vertically.  Taken at 1:52 pm on March 21, 2015.  The only saving grace on the lighting was the latitude and the scattered clouds.

Any and all comments are appreciated.

Thanks,

Seems ironic that a dry desert scene is formed by water, Dennis, but it is true.  You've got a second formed by water subject here, in those fine fair weather cumulus clouds.  Looks like an interesting place.

Love the wide view on this one, Dennis. Seems to provide an in-depth and unending scene overall. The scattering of the clouds are such an excellent addition to this scene too. Again, lots of depth here. Like most dry lakes the water and direct rain is minimal many times. But what takes place in the surrounding areas of mountains and foothills with resulting runoff can fill a lake such as this easily. A good example of what takes place even at Badwater in DVNP at times......cool

The linear layering works well here Dennis.  I like the vast expanse you portray.  The color is nice.  I've never been here but it is on my list.  The clouds are really fine.

Dennis, An impressive wide open view which I like very much. The clouds work perfectly topping off this expansive view. Very nice!
