Snow leopard

This year I had the opportunity to photograph the new born snow leopards at  the Miller Park Zoo.  I also photographed the adult pair who produced the cubs.  I consider them the most beautiful of the wild cats.  This is the male, in a somewhat regal pose.  I was able to work close to the exhibit wire which allowed me to keep the wire out of most of the photos.

John,

I have seen some of your images of the snow leopards and it must have been a great experience to photograph the cubs and family.

I like the practically "black & white" look of the image and you manage to keep the wire, fences, etc. out of the image very well out of the image. That is one of the challenges when photographing animals in zoos or wild parks.

I have noticed that many of your pictures are very tightly framed and my suggestion to you in general would be to leave a bit of more room around the subject. Other then taht this one is a well done portrait, with a taste of pensative pose ...

Hi John,

I like this " in your face" look at a snow leopard.  The dark BG nicely contrasts with the snow leopard.  The composition works well here with head positioned in the upper third of the photograph. The tight crop also works well here--it gives the viewer a strong suggestion that this is a large and powerful cat.  Well done......................Jim

Superb detail, John and I like the way the dark bg isolates the cat.

Hi John,

Beautiful animal. Good job on working through the wire - if you hadn't mentioned it I'm sure no one would have even thought you had a barrier between you and the subject.

In this case I think the close crop works well (especially given the darkness of the background - including more of that would have no real value).

When we were pondering over developing this gallery I instantly thought of you! Looking forward to seeing more of your posts!

Cheers...

Brad
