Whooping Cranes
by Dennis Plank
Like Mark, I've probably already posted the best of this year's images elsewhere, so I think I'll use this challenge to post images from those special days in the field. Some of them didn't even result in a really good image, but the experience of being there was what really mattered to me. I'll kick it off with this image representative of the majority of the week I spent at Goose Island State Park in Texas, mostly with the Whooping Cranes, though I did get over to Port Aransas and I'll post an image from there as well.
7D2, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, f/8, 1/6400, iso 500, aperture priority, center weighted average metering, -2/3 EV (which I shouldn't have used). Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 13.6 Mpixels. Taken February 20th at 7:53 am.

4 commentsDennis I totally agree about your comment here.......
If not for the coloring or the slightly different feather patterns these look like they were cloned. Not in any negative way at all, but to see them so in synch in the flight is amazing. They truly look to be carbon copies they're so close in the flight position & posture. The animal kingdom can share some wonderful habits, talents, or traits at times.
My two Siberian Huskies when on leads ahead of me as we'd being jogging would bark at each other until they were both in the same cadence and their backs would rise and fall simultaneously. Basically in their DNA to work as a team, nothing I ever taught them. This photo brought that trait of theirs to my mind immediately....
