Pastel Palette

From last March in Death Valley, a mid-day image from Zabriskie Point. I tried to make the best of the harsh-ish light to flatten the layers of hills through the lack of shadows. The result pleased me for some reason, perhaps not the least of which was getting something from an iconic location in less than ideal light, handheld. Not my best of the year, but I've already posted most of those and don't feel like revisiting any of them for this WC.

My other glaring deficiency is that I've got a huge backlog of 2015 processing to do (which may have better stuff) but life keeps getting in the way. No way I'm making a significant dent before the end of the year! Wishing everyone the best of light and life in the coming year  devil

f/10, 1/200 sec, 179mm, +1 stop exposure, handheld.

A very cool landscape, Dave and a good job of capturing it, particularly given the light.

Dave, you must have had some clouds as I see lots of interesting details, subtle color shifts and minimal shadows throughout.  This is an excellent abstract with all of the shapes and colors as well as a nice gradation in brightness from the bottom to the top.

The color really pops well in the large image.  Very nice abstract.

You caught a nice range of light colors on the eroded ridges.  I wonder if cropping off the lower ridge with their dark spots might enhance the pastel tones/mood.  Best to you in 2016.

Dave,
This is very nice. Beautiful tonalities. Actually, I think the flat, soft lighting is helping.
