Vermilion Flycatcher

I stopped at Sierra Vista/Fort Huachuca in March primarily to visit The Nature Conservancy's Ramsey Canyon Preserve in search of hummingbirds.  It turned out that I was too early for hummingbirds, but I accidentally discovered the San Pedro River Riparian Area with Green Kingfisher Pond and this wonderful bird.  I ended up spending three mornings and one afternoon there (the fishermen were there by afternoon, so it wasn't really productive).  It's now on my short list for revisiting.

7D2, 500mm f4 ISL + 2.0 TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRs legs, f/8, 1/8000, iso 800, aperture priority, center-weighted average metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped from a horizontal original to 8.6 Mpixels.  A couple of excess twigs cloned out.  Taken March 11th at 9:00 AM.

Comments are always appreciated.

Thanks,

This is a beautiful portrait, Dennis, great color and detail in the bird, a nice eye highlight plus a clean perch and background.

A fine catch Dennis.  Your Texas trip has exposed me to many birds I have never seen.  This image has wonderful richness withouth being oversaturated.

A very clean image of this flycatcher.  Good colors and details.  I like the pose and the perch you caught this bird on.  Always nice to find something when your hoped for species does not show up.  Thanks for sharing.
